Universal acceptance of gender biases. That’s really what it is. Female house staff, no male teachers in school, and cricket – well, that’s not for girls, right?
That’s what I grew up around me. Every day, there was a new story of a woman being challenged or punished for her gender. Growing up in India, I saw women being burnt over dowry, making headlines in newspapers. But what could I do about it?
One day, I decide to share this voice with my dad. I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to do something. And all my dad said “yes, you could make a difference, but you will only make a difference if you have the ability and knowledge to make a difference.”
That was enough to push me in the direction and emboldened me to be the woman I am today. They gave me the courage to be Unapologetically Me, not in the sense of being unable to apologize, but in the sense of not having to apologize for being myself.

Rakshan Syed is the author of Embolden Women: Unapologetically Me. She is a mom, career woman, and a daughter. Ever since she was a little girl, she has been passionate about women’s empowerment. From a young age, she had a sense of unease regarding the universal acceptance of gender biases & would challenge the norms that would discriminate against women. She has passion for women’s education and career development. She strongly believes that every woman must be given equal opportunity in all facets of life. She is a Lawyer, Interior Designer, and a successful IT Professional with a senior management position in a fortune 100 company. Her passion for women empowerment and gender equality is what prompted her to write her first book; ‘Embolden Women: Unapologetically Me’.
